Interviewing Lily

After a somewhat difficult time, I feel like I'm finally emerging into the light and it is so wonderful to have the energy for living (and not merely subsisting) again.

Yesterday, I interviewed the incredible artist Lily Mae Martin, who will be the first new addition to a reissue of The Divided Heart: Art and Motherhood.

It felt so satisfying to be exploring this territory again - especially with someone as gifted and as generous as Lily, who has often shared her candid musings about the experience of art and mothering on her former "Domestic Berlin" site and now on her website blog.

I feel quite overwhelmed by my admiration for Lily's work. Her mastery of the art of drawing is beyond extraordinary.

I feared her words might temporarily be drowned out by the cries of small babies (cafes are so much the domain of new mothers during the day nowadays), but my trusty voice recorder app didn't fail me and I happily re-listened to what was a beautiful interview last night. (I don't think I'll ever fully recover from the trauma of losing most of that interview with Rachel Griffiths all those years ago...)

So, what this means is that a new edition of The Divided Heart is finally taking shape.

Thank you to everyone who still chances by this blog on occasion. I'll keep you posted on developments...

Oh, and while I'm here, I have to mention that my friend and fellow-traveller, Clint Greagon - of Reservoir Dad fame - has finally published the book he's been threatening to write for years.

I haven't got my hands on a copy yet, but Kerri Sackville says: "If David Sedaris had got married and had kids, he would have been Reservoir Dad. Fall-on-the-floor funny, sharp, witty and just a little bit sexy."

Yep, that sounds like Clint.

If you fancy reading about the travails of a stay-at-home dad with a wicked sense of humour and a penchant for saying it like it is, Reservoir Dad: He's Got it Covered is your book.

I never chance by, you're still one of the blogs that I get a thrill from seeing pop up in my Feedly. Lovely to have this pop up and hear (read) things are rosy and that there's more writing on its way.

Hi Rachel, I only just realised you actually have a blog, and I'm thrilled! I just tried to by The Divided Heart for my birthday and it's out of stock. I'm assuming the publishers are waiting for the new edition instead of doing another print run. I'm so bummed! I really need this book. So, for now, I'll just watch the BHB Conference from last year again, and wait for more posts right here. I would say hurry up with that book, but my baby is screaming her head off in the background. Write when you can and enjoy the process. (however stunted and frustrating it may be!)
